What is the National Tutoring Programme?

The National Tutoring Programme (NTP) is a Government-funded initiative to provide catch-up tuition for disadvantaged children across Primary, Secondary, Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Alternative Provision, whose education has been affected by COVID-19.

Through the NTP schools have access to highly flexible tuition that can be provided on a 1:1, 1:2 or 1:3 basis, either face-to-face or online. The programme allows each student 15 hours of catch-up tuition, with schools subsidised by 70%. Tuition can take place during school hours, after school or at weekends.

 The NTP focus is on:

  • Primary Schools – Across KS1 and KS2 focussing on numeracy and literacy.
  • Secondary Schools – Across KS3 and KS4 focussing on core subjects of English, maths and science, as well as humanities and languages.
  • SEN Schools – 1:1 sessions across all abilities.

Tempest has supported schools across England and within London for the past 10 years. Our extensive database has a range of fully vetted and flexible tutors covering all school years, with a particular focus on SEN.

We understand that catch-up tuition is a new area for many schools and so we have an experienced in-house NTP Tuition Leader able to assist with any enquires or questions.

We are here to support you along the way and will do all we can to make the process as easy and clear as possible.

The process is designed to be as straightforward as possible. Following a conversation to understand your needs and the subjects tuition is required in, we agree a schedule and Tempest claims the balance from NTP. We also provide reports and the paperwork you need to evidence Pupil Premium spending.
